As a child I was always interested in reading my horoscope (as many of us do), but as I
grew older I became aware of the Chinese Horoscope and learned I was a “Water
Rabbit”. My sun sign is Cancer and I do have quite a few characteristics, but then again I
don’t?
Cancerian’s are deeply emotional, nurturing and intuitive they prefer to be at home with
their family. They have a need for security but their loyalty and deep empathy can
manifest as moodiness and oversensitivity reflecting the Moon and Water element in the
character.
Me? I love to be away from home, I moved away from my family at the age of nineteen,
not because I had too but because I wanted to. I travelled a lot, on my own, to Asia and
America. Prior to becoming an Acupuncturist I changed my career several times. I love
change, it excites me. I get bored very quickly and work a lot. My birthday is on the cusp
of Gemini so I always thought I should have been born under a Gemini sign, so I would
read the horoscope for Gemini which made more sense to me.
Then whilst training in Santa Fe I went to see a Astrologist to have a reading of my birth
chart. I had no expectations and there were a couple of things he said I never
understood. However, the majority was incredibly correct. He spoke of ‘things’ that noone but I knew about, which was very freaky!! It also became apparent that your Sun sign
is important, but your ASC (Ascendant, which I will not go into here) is the sign in your
chart that depicts how everyone else sees you.
Oh My! My ASC is ‘Libra’ – the sign of harmony & balance – as an Acupuncturist my work
is all about harmony & balance. My Sun sign is in the 10th House, which represents your
career, public image, reputation, ambition and life’s purpose of calling (dharma). But the
major finding was that most of my bigger influential planets where in my 9th House in
Gemini which is all about philosophy, higher learning, long-distance travel, spirituality and
beliefs. Gemini also love variety, new experiences and dislike routine and boredom.
BINGO!!
Acupuncture and Astrology are distinct but complementary systems. Both disciplines
aim to restore balance in a holistic way. Acupuncture offers a practical method to
balance the energy (Qi) in the body, mind & spirit whilst Astrology helps us understand the
predispositions and potential vulnerabilities in the body, mind & spirit.
Both systems use the 5-Elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water & Wood) in order to diagnose
where the imbalances in the patient’s health lies. For example, if a person’s chart shows a
strong Fire element imbalance an acupuncturist could focus on cooling & calming points.
